SOCIAL PRESCRIBING
TELL YOUR STORY. SHOUT IT. WRITE IT. WHISPER IT IF YOU HAVE TO. BUT TELL IT. SOME WON’T UNDERSTAND IT. SOME WILL OUTRIGHT REJECT IT. BUT MANY WILL THANK YOU FOR IT. AND THEN THE MOST MAGICAL THING WILL HAPPEN. ONE BY ONE, VOICES WILL START WHISPERING, ‘ME, TOO.’ AND YOUR TRIBE WILL GATHER. AND YOU WILL NEVER FEEL ALONE AGAIN.
Taking mental health outside the therapy room.
Without social connection, not only does our physical and mental health worsen, we increasingly lose access to resources to improve or restore our well-being. The evolutionary importance of social connection justifies the focus on a meaningful connection with the capacity to give back.
Just as in a tribe, security and stability is ensured by knowing one’s role and knowing one is helping others, relational social prescribing aims to reintegrate participants into reciprocal and stable social connections.
