Connection is the foundation of mental health

How it all Began

On an August night in 2018, Lennie Knowlton invited four therapist friends for a backyard brainstorm. Over a cheese platter, the women, who together had served the community for many years, discussed the intense barriers preventing people in their community from receiving the mental health care they deserve.

They shared stories of success and tragedy and agreed that the path to improving mental health includes access to quality trauma-informed services, provided by therapists who are energized and invested in care and are followed by opportunities to take the “work” outside of the therapy through practice and connection with others.

It was clear that the community needed something better. A few weeks later — Project Connection was founded.

Since then, we’ve remained as committed as ever to bring the mental health services that bring the experience, empathy, and commitment to providing services that help the individuals move through shame and trauma in order to create a more connected, wholehearted society.

Create Connection.

  • Three women enjoying a casual gathering in a kitchen, with food and drinks on the counter.

    Social Prescribing.

Social prescribing is a relatively new approach to wellness that can be added to any therapy to improve connection. Clients are paired with a Link Worker, who help them identify and engage in specific activities, groups and relationships that are specifically chosen to fit their lifestyle, interests, values and special needs.

  • Multiple people are placing their hands together in a team gesture of unity, with some wearing colorful sweaters and rings.

    The Connection Project.

The Connection Project aligns with our core belief that we all do better when we are seen, heard, and connected (with others, with community, with our passions, and with our stories).

Our trauma-informed, evidence based approach will provide a trusted therapeutic framework. Our willingness to show up, provide empathy and validate our client’s experiences provide them with the support they need to challenge themselves and create the path to meeting their goals. Then comes the real work…taking their journey outside the therapy office.

  • Two young women sitting on a cobblestone sidewalk, enjoying drinks and laughing, in front of a red brick building with a green door and black metal window bars.

    Therapy You Can Trust.

Our team has over 100 years of combined experience and our therapists are committed to continuing education and research. From the latest in trauma-informed care, somatic work, emotion regulation, EMDR, shame resilience and play therapy, you can be confident that we have a therapist who will meet your needs.

IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES

At Project Connection, we’re committed to practicing what we’ve known all along…that connection is the very center and foundation of mental health.

It is our project to improve the overall wellbeing of our community through providing quality mental health services and to make sure that these services are accessible to everyone. This is why a portion of every self-pay or insurance paid session helps to fund mental health services for an unfunded or underfunded individual.

We are truly passionate and excited about helping people grow, heal and have connected lives—putting in the hard work it takes to build trust and make real and significant changes.
